Hollywood Food Coalition is built on the strength of our community. Everything we do is made possible by the dedication and generosity of the volunteers who show up for us every single day.

VOLUNTEER

Four smiling people in aprons standing in a kitchen holding trays of food, with the group labeled with name tags: Brian, Bill, and Sean. The trays contain cooked vegetables, rice, and sliced cooked chicken.

We welcome volunteers at the times that work best for them.

Some people drop in when their schedules allow, while many become “regulars,” choosing a favorite day or shift and returning weekly, or as often as they’re able.

So many of our volunteers keep coming back because they have forged lasting friendships with other fellow volunteers and with our guests. In a world that can feel increasingly isolated, our volunteers find community and purpose by connecting with others who share their values, and find meaning by working with their hands to prepare delicious meals to feed those in need. Our regular volunteers include every age group from high school students all the way up to retirees, and we couldn’t do the work we do without them.

We have also created initiatives to involve younger kids, such as our Sunday Lunch Bag Project and forged other partnerships with elementary and middle schools. We believe that one is never too young to start volunteering in their community, and little ones are often some of our most enthusiastic volunteers!

  • Highlight of my Fridays

“As a transplant in LA, I wanted to plant roots... Volunteering felt like the most genuine way to connect with my neighborhood and build a real community.

Volunteering at HoFoCo has become the highlight of my Fridays."

    – Laura Notarianni, Community Dinner Volunteer

  • What a gift!

"Friends of mine suggested I volunteer at Hollywood Food Coalition. What a gift it has been! And being vegan, they were able to accommodate my volunteer shift to avoid handling animal products which was super cool!

Thank you Hollywood Food Coalition for all that you do for Los Angeles!"

    – Rain Phoenix, Community Dinner Volunteer

  • Make a difference in one day

"I've never seen such a simple and pure mission from a non-profit. One can make a difference on just the first day of volunteering."

    – Stan Moroncini, Volunteer and Board Member

  • Direct, Positive impact

"I started volunteering at HoFoCo because I wanted to make a direct, positive impact on my local community. It feels good."

    – Sam Boswell, Community Exchange Volunteer
