Building community, One meal at a time
At Hollywood Food Coalition, we don't just rescue and serve food — we build connections. Our approach centers on the belief that real change happens when people come together.
More than a food program
We're not a food pantry. We're not a traditional food bank.
We're community builders who work with and through food.
In Los Angeles, food insecurity affects nearly one in three people. But the challenge isn't just about getting food to people - it's about creating the conditions for true nourishment.
And that’s what our approach is based on.
Our Community-Centered Approach
Through our nightly meal, we show up consistently, treat everyone with dignity, and create a space where people feel valued. That trust opens doors to other vital services.
We Build Trust
At the Community Exchange, we don’t just distribute rescued food. We get to know our nonprofit partners and who they serve, allowing us to tailor orders based on true understanding.
We Build relationships
We Build SUPPORT SYSTEMS
No single organization can solve hunger or its related issues alone. We bring together neighbors, nonprofits, businesses, and volunteers to strengthen the safety net and create lasting solutions.
Why Community Building?
Traditional food programs often focus on responding to hunger efficiently: get food in, give food out.
While we certainly pride ourselves on serving nightly meals, we also know that food insecurity doesn't exist in isolation. It's connected to deeper issues like housing instability, lack of healthcare, and social isolation.
By centering our work on community-building, we create spaces where people belong, where volunteers and guests know each other's names, and where grassroots organizations can be part of something bigger.
Food is the start. Community is the result.
How we build community
We serve a warm, chef-prepared meal every night— no exceptions. That reliability builds trust and creates a stable point of connection for people navigating uncertainty.
Show up every night
A dignified meal creates an opportunity. Through partnerships with local organizations, we connect dinner guests to medical care, mental health services, housing navigation, and more.
Connect people to support
From corporate volunteers to longtime guests to nonprofit partners, everyone has a seat at our table. We weave connections that strengthen the entire community safety net.
