About Hollywood Food Coalition
Our Vision
Our vision is a city where everyone has food, community, and support.
We believe that access to nutritious meals is a human right. But true nourishment goes beyond food: it includes belonging, dignity, and a supportive community.
Our vision is a Los Angeles where these essentials are available to all.
Our Mission
The mission of Hollywood Food Coalition is to nourish the community by rescuing and distributing food, preparing nightly meals, and uniting efforts to achieve food equity.
Los Angeles is one of the most food-insecure regions in the United States.
Tens of thousands of neighbors face daily uncertainty about where their next meal will come from.
Hunger is only part of the challenge. People experiencing poverty and homelessness often struggle with isolation, lack of access to healthcare, and limited support networks. Traditional food services can fall short of addressing the full human need for dignity, stability, and community.
Our Story
Since 1987, HoFoCo has served a meal to anyone who is hungry in Hollywood every single night of the year, without fail.
1987
Started as a small group of neighbors sharing food on the streets of West Hollywood.
Expanded volunteer efforts into a consistent, trusted resource for hundreds of neighbors each evening.
1990s=2000s
Our Community Dinner and Wellness program provides almost 100,000 meals and thousands of connections to social services annually, and our pioneering Community Exchange program distributes rescued food to over 200 local nonprofits.
today
Through the years, one thing hasn’t changed: our belief that food should be served with dignity, and that building connections is just as important as serving meals.
What Makes Us Different
Every Night, No Exceptions
We’ve served meals every single night since 1987.
BEYOND A MEAL
Our Community Dinner operates like a restaurant, offering balanced nutrition, choice, and dignity.
THE right food, at the right time, with impact
We rescue food to prevent waste and reduce emissions, then prepare tailored orders so our nonprofit partners get what they need, when they need it, to feed their communities.
We listen to the community and partner with local organizations, businesses, partners, and volunteers to build a strong network of support.
ROOTED IN RElationships
Our Community Exchange redistributes excess food to community-based organizations, while our Collaborative Food Hub model is designed for replication so more neighborhoods can create sustainable food systems.
