It’s more than a meal

In a city with more than enough food, too many people still go without. At Hollywood Food Coalition, we believe that food is the start, but community is the result.

Every meal we serve, every pound of food we rescue, every resource we share is part of something bigger:

OUR WORK

We serve our community every day through food rescue, nightly meals, and by coming together as one community.

Every week, our Community Exchange program rescues tens of thousands of pounds of surplus food that would otherwise go to waste from grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, and more. We then match and distribute this food to a network of more than 200 community-based organizations (CBOs) across Los Angeles that serve folks experiencing food insecurity. We get to know each organization and their capacities so that we can share the right kinds of food with them, which helps to reduce waste and increase impact.

Every night of the year, we serve a nourishing, chef-prepared meal to anyone who joins us for dinner. We foster a spirit of community, where dignity is restored, neighbors are valued, and compassion is always on the menu. For many of our guests, our Community Dinner is just the beginning, as we also invite local, trusted organizations on-site to provide wellness and other supportive services directly to our guests. We never, ever have barriers or bureaucracy for our dinner guests.
