Many people experiencing poverty and homelessness have had negative experiences addressing their health needs. They often access medical services only when health issues become urgent. Most do not have a regular doctor who knows them and who can provide consistent care.

Hollywood Food Coalition is proud to host partners on-site that provide health care services to our dinner guests on a regular basis.

Health care services

In 2000, Hollywood Food Coalition and UCLA partnered to launch The Mobile Clinic Project at UCLA, with the goal of providing medical services to HoFoCo dinner guests during meal service. By meeting people where they are, our Community Dinner guests are able to access medical services they likely wouldn’t receive otherwise. The medical team fosters ongoing relationships with our guests, providing essential medical care that results in better health outcomes for those we serve.

Since its inception, The Mobile Clinic Project at UCLA has provided and continues to provide health services to thousands of people.

What it provides: Acute, chronic, and preventative medical care, including referrals to other services and help scheduling follow-up medical appointments.

When: Every Wednesday from 6:30pm to 9:00pm

Mobile Clinic Project at UCLA

Established in 1975 by an anonymous donor, the UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic is a community outreach program of the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. Stein Eye has the longest continuously operating eye clinic on wheels in the USA.

For more than 40 years, UMEC has been supporting patient care and screening programs in neighborhoods where poverty and vision disabilities intersect. UMEC has given the highest quality care to over 300,000 patients and has a long history of working closely with homeless, uninsured, and low-income communities.

Once per month, the UMEC visits HoFoCo’s Dinner Service to provide services to HoFoCo dinner guests.

What it provides: Ophthalmologist visit, vision tests, glasses at no charge

When: 4th Wednesday of every month from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Immediate Support for Neighbors Facing Homelessness and Hardship

People experiencing homelessness and general poverty often need basic items just to survive each day. These items are hard to keep for long periods of time and also difficult to keep clean, making frequent replacement necessary.

During our nightly Dinner service, we often provide a variety of essential items. For most of these items, we rely on generous donations from our partners and volunteers.

  • New, unused blankets, tents and sleeping bags are welcome. Please contact info@hofoco.org for drop-off or shipping information.

  • Please check the lists below for our most needed hygiene items.

  • We’re grateful for your interest in donating clothes!

While continuing to distribute clothing and wellness items through our Community Wellness program, we’re no longer able to accept clothing donations directly. Due to limited capacity, we are not equipped to sort and organize donated items ourselves.

Instead, we encourage you to support our trusted clothing distribution partner, Project Ropa, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that specializes in getting quality clothing to those who need it most, including our guests! You can find more information here.

Directing donations this way helps us focus on providing nourishing meals and wraparound services, while ensuring your items still reach our guests through the most efficient channels. Thank you for your generosity!
